Three years into the Ukraine conflict, Moldova hosts 131,491 Ukrainian refugees—4% of its population, the highest per capita in Europe. Despite significant efforts by the government and humanitarian partners, national systems—especially healthcare, social services, and economic integration—remain under heavy strain.

Humanitarian and Emergency Response

In response to the Ukraine crises, Project HOPE mobilized a regional emergency response across Eastern Europe, deploying teams in Ukraine, Poland, Romania, and Moldova. In Moldova, Project HOPE Polska has been a key partner in national health response efforts, addressing critical medical shortages caused by supply chain disruptions and increased healthcare demands.

Our Impact in Numbers (2022-2025)

Over the past 4 years, Project HOPE Polska has strengthened Moldova’s health system and expanded humanitarian assistance for both refugees and host communities. Through targeted medical support, mental health services, capacity-building, and community outreach, our interventions have delivered measurable and lasting results.

Home-Based Care Support Teams

• 3 Mobile Medical Units launched
• 6,466 medical consultations provided

Screening & Community Outreach

• 397 individuals screened (glucose, cholesterol, eye screening)

Future Plans

We will continue investing in mental health services by working closely with district primary health care facilities, training family doctors and expanding community awareness and tele-mental health initiatives.

At the same time, Project HOPE Polska in Moldova intends to scale up social protection and community health activities, building stronger connections between refugees and host communities. These efforts will help create a more inclusive, resilient, and people-centered health system across Moldova.
